On a late Sunday evening in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 26-year-old Shaniece Moore was tragically cut short on October 3, 2021. Responding to a shooting call in the 3000 block of Madeline Circle, Memphis police officers discovered Moore unresponsive inside a black Infiniti M37. She had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported that Moore had been arguing with her live-in boyfriend, Cornelius Williams, earlier that day.
One witness recounted seeing a man matching Williams's description fire several shots at close range, striking Moore in the chest as she fell. Another witness stated they saw Williams following Moore while holding a black and silver handgun. Both witnesses identified Williams as Moore's boyfriend with whom she lived.
Following the incident, Williams, who was 40 years old at the time, was taken to the homicide office for questioning. After waiving his Miranda rights, he admitted to being in possession of a. 45 caliber handgun. A subsequent search of the residence he shared with Moore led to the discovery of a. 45 handgun. Investigators also found that Williams had a prior felony conviction from 2002.
In March 2022, a grand jury indicted Cornelius Williams on charges of second-degree murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. He was held on a $600,000 bond. The case was handled by the District Attorney's Domestic Violence Unit.
