On November 12, 2024, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Williamston Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting at a residence on East Simmons Avenue in Williamston, North Carolina. Upon arrival, they discovered 35-year-old Travis Lee deceased from a gunshot wound.
Investigations revealed that Lee had been involved in a physical altercation with his ex-girlfriend, Olivia Lea Stokes, prior to the shooting.
Following the incident, Stokes, aged 34, turned herself in to authorities on November 15, 2024. She was subsequently charged with an open count of murder and is currently being held without bond. Her initial court appearance was scheduled for November 18, 2024.
Travis Lee's funeral services were held on November 23, 2024, at Power House Ministries Church in Lewiston-Woodville, with burial following at Weeping Mary Baptist Church Cemetery. A GoFundMe campaign titled "Honoring Travis Lee: Funeral Fund" was organized by his sister, Amy Lee, to assist with funeral expenses.
The Williamston Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Lee's death. Community members have expressed their condolences and shared memories of Lee, describing him as a loving, funny, and hardworking individual who will be deeply missed.
