Idrissa Siby, a 22-year-old Black male, found himself in a fatal confrontation near the iconic Times Square. The incident unfolded around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of West 44th Street and Eighth Avenue, a location typically teeming with tourists and commuters.
An argument between Siby and several other men escalated, culminating in one individual drawing a firearm and shooting Siby in the chest. Despite his efforts to escape the scene, Siby collapsed a block away. He was swiftly transported to Mount Sinai West hospital, but his injuries proved to be mortal, and he was pronounced dead.
The New York Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the brazen rush-hour shooting. Detectives canvassed the area for witnesses and scoured surveillance footage to piece together the events that led to the deadly encounter. Early indications from the investigation suggested the dispute may have been connected to narcotics activity in the area. Valenzuela, a Bronx resident and drill rapper known by the stage name Nas EBK, was extradited back to Midtown Manhattan to face charges. He was formally charged with second-degree murder for his alleged role in the shooting. The arrest brought a sense of resolution to the case, though the motive was still publicly attributed to a dispute. Prior to this, Valenzuela had faced unrelated charges earlier in the year.
