On a Friday night in Rochester, New York, a meeting between acquaintances turned fatal, ending the life of 20-year-old Anthony 'Boogie' Stevenson-Sutton, a Black male. On March 10, 2023, police responded to a call of a shooting on Depew Street. Arriving at the scene, they discovered Stevenson-Sutton inside his vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate life-saving efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead.
The narrative of that evening began to unfold as investigators learned that Stevenson-Sutton had arranged to meet with 19-year-old Sincere Vazquez.
The investigation quickly progressed. Shortly after finding Stevenson-Sutton, police were called to Chili Avenue for another shooting victim. There they found Sincere Vazquez, who had also sustained a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Detectives determined that during the arranged meeting on Depew Street, Vazquez had entered Stevenson-Sutton's vehicle and fatally shot him with a 9mm handgun. When Vazquez was located, he was found to be in possession of a second 9mm handgun.
Following the investigation, Sincere Vazquez was arrested and faced multiple serious charges, including second-degree murder, two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a firearm. Due to his injuries, he was arraigned while still in his hospital bed. The legal proceedings concluded in January 2024, when Vazquez pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter. He was subsequently sentenced to 14 years in state prison, which will be followed by five years of post-release supervision.
