A 39-year-old man, Bryson Simpson Sr., was killed in a triple shooting in southwest Rochester on July 6, 2020. The incident, which resulted in his death, is still an unsolved case. There have been no arrests made and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his death.
In a separate and unrelated case, a 17-year-old high school student named Bryson Simpson was shot and killed in Rochester on March 11, 2022.
This incident occurred in broad daylight as he was walking home after getting off a school bus. The shooting took place on Otis Street, and Simpson was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was with three friends at the time, none of whom were injured.
The investigation into the death of the teenage Bryson Simpson led to the identification of a suspect, 18-year-old Salahuddin Floyd, Jr., who was also a student at Edison Career and Technology High School, the same school as the victim. Floyd was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Task Force following a significant investigation.
Salahuddin Floyd, Jr. was charged with the murder of Bryson Simpson. In January 2023, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the first degree. The following month, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison, to be followed by five years of post-release supervision. Prosecutors stated that Floyd had ambushed Simpson in a senseless act of violence. The conviction brought a measure of closure to the family of the young victim.
