On May 20, 2023, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Alex Smith, 32, was fatally shot in the parking lot of Linsa Torr’s Place, a bar in Mastic Beach, New York. Smith was ambushed by 34-year-old Joseph Scalafani, who fired multiple shots, striking Smith in the back and torso. As Smith lay on the ground, Scalafani shot him twice in the head at close range, resulting in his immediate death.
