In a tragic and sudden eruption of violence on a Sunday afternoon, a young man's life was cut short on a street in the Bronx. Carlos Rivera, a 23-year-old male, was fatally shot on August 25, 2024, following what police have described as a verbal dispute. The incident unfolded at approximately 2:52 p.m. outside an apartment building at 265 East 176th Street in the Tremont section of the Bronx, just a block from his home.
The argument, the nature of which remains under investigation,
escalated horrifically when an unidentified individual pulled out a firearm. The assailant fired at Rivera, striking him at least twice in the chest. Officers from the 46th Precinct arrived at the scene to find Rivera in serious condition. Emergency medical services rushed him to St. Barnabas Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
In the immediate aftermath, the shooter fled the scene, heading eastbound on East 176th Street in a van. Law enforcement has released a description of the suspect, who was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants, and red and black sneakers. As of late August 2024, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
