In the early morning hours of September 21, 2024, a 17-year-old male named Sincere Emanuel Campbell was fatally shot in the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. The incident occurred at approximately 3:25 a.m. in front of 1186 Evergreen Avenue, near the intersection with Westchester Avenue. Responding to a 911 call about an assault in progress, police discovered Campbell with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where he was pronounced dead.
Surveillance footage from the area captured the events leading up to the shooting. The video shows Campbell involved in a confrontation with several individuals near a dark-colored SUV. A person wearing a dark hoodie is seen exiting the rear passenger side of the vehicle and opening fire, striking Campbell and causing him to collapse on the sidewalk. Despite the existence of this footage, no arrests have been made in the case, and the investigation by the New York Police Department remains ongoing.
Sincere Campbell was a high school senior at the Leadership and Public Service High School in Manhattan. Described by his family as a loving, kind, smart, and hardworking young man, he was balancing his studies with two jobs and had aspirations of becoming an engineer. His loved ones, including his mother Ana Vega and his father Daryl, have been vocal in their pleas for justice, emphasizing that he was a good kid who was not involved in gangs or street violence. The family has held memorials and balloon releases to honor his memory, all while expressing frustration with the lack of progress in the investigation. They continue to ask that anyone with information come forward to help bring closure to his case.
