On October 2, 2024, at approximately 12:05 a.m., 46-year-old Vernard Glen Floranda was fatally shot outside a deli at the intersection of West 160th Street and Amsterdam Avenue in Washington Heights, New York City. Floranda, a sommelier at the esteemed Café Boulud on the Upper East Side, was returning home from work when he was struck by a stray bullet fired during a drive-by shooting. A 25-year-old man was also injured in the incident, sustaining a gunshot wound to his left ankle.
