In the Penrose neighborhood of St. Louis, a burst of gunfire on a Wednesday evening shattered the life of Chanelle Cha Nelle Brooks. The 22-year-old woman was fatally shot shortly before 6:30 p.m. on February 15, 2023, in the 4800 block of Margaretta Avenue. Brooks, a resident of Sparta, Illinois, was found outside with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 30s was also struck by the gunfire and was discovered nearby in critical condition.
He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. In the immediate aftermath of the double shooting, investigators had not identified any suspects, and no arrests were announced. The St. Louis police homicide division is leading the ongoing investigation into the incident and has appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an arrest.
