Marie Montgomery, a 73-year-old widow from Saint Louis, Missouri, was tragically murdered on December 12, 1977. Her death was the result of a violent encounter with Winford Stokes, a man with a history of criminal behavior. On that fateful day, Stokes broke into Montgomery's apartment with the intent to rob her. During the robbery, he shot her in the neck and right arm, leading to her immediate death. After killing Montgomery, Stokes ransacked her apartment and stole a wristwatch.
