On the morning of Saturday, March 11, 2023, the quiet atmosphere of the Ellendale neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri, was shattered by violence. Shortly after 6:00 a.m., officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call reporting a shooting in the 7100 block of Piccadilly Avenue. Upon arrival, first responders discovered a victim lying on the sidewalk, unresponsive and suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
The individual was identified as 44-year-old Trina Gilmore, a female resident of the area. Despite the arrival of emergency personnel, she was not conscious or breathing and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives quickly launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, characterizing the event as a domestic-related shooting. Investigators were able to promptly identify a person of interest, determining that a 47-year-old man was the likely suspect involved in the fatal altercation. Police did not immediately release his identity to the public but focused their search on locating him and his vehicle in the surrounding areas.
Hours later, around 4:20 p.m., authorities received information regarding a suspicious vehicle parked behind a residence in the 6900 block of Sutherland Avenue, approximately one mile from where the initial shooting took place. When officers approached the car, they discovered the male suspect inside. He was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound under his chin. Following this discovery, law enforcement officials indicated that they were not seeking any other suspects in connection with the case.
