In the early morning hours of a Saturday in the Tower Grove South neighborhood of St. Louis, tragedy struck, leaving one woman dead and another injured. On April 18, 2020, police responded to a call on the 4400 block of Beck Avenue where they discovered two women who had been shot. One of the victims, 54-year-old Charmaine Stanfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second woman was transported to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition.
The investigation into the double shooting quickly led to a suspect. Brandon Langston was subsequently arrested and faced a litany of charges in connection with the incident. The charges brought against him included first-degree murder for the death of Charmaine Stanfield, as well as assault, two counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and burglary.
The case against Brandon Langston moved through the legal system, marking a significant step towards justice for Charmaine Stanfield and the surviving victim. The community was left to mourn the loss of a woman described by friends and colleagues as kind, giving, and always willing to help others in need. Her work with the St. Louis Health Department was remembered for the positive impact she had on the lives of many citizens in the community.
