On March 25, 2023, at approximately 1 p.m., Kansas City police responded to reports of a shooting at the Stonegate Meadows Apartments, located in the 10400 block of East 43rd Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 31-year-old Jerome Oates in a parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services transported Oates to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
