On the afternoon of June 10, 2023, law enforcement officers responded to a shooting incident in Berkeley, St. Louis County, Missouri. At approximately 1:57 p.m., police were dispatched to a BP gas station located in the 4400 block of North Hanley Road. Upon arrival, they discovered a 48-year-old male, identified as Christopher Gall of Maryland Heights, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
He was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment but subsequently succumbed to injuries to his chest and abdomen.
Investigators determined that Gall had been sitting outside the gas station when a gray Chevrolet Malibu pulled up. A passenger exited the vehicle and approached him. Surveillance footage revealed that the suspect took Gall's backpack, leading to a physical altercation between the two men. During the struggle, the suspect shot Gall. The shooter then fled back to the waiting vehicle, which was driven by another individual. The driver picked up the gunman and sped away from the scene.
Later that evening, around 9:15 p.m., police spotted the suspect vehicle near Jennings Station Road and Garesche Avenue. When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver refused to yield, leading authorities on a high-speed pursuit onto eastbound Interstate 70. The vehicle reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour and weaved through traffic with its lights extinguished before officers lost sight of it near Shreve Avenue.
The following day, on June 11, police located and stopped the vehicle in the City of St. Louis, taking the driver into custody. The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Tyree Fletcher. During questioning, Fletcher reportedly admitted to driving the getaway car, fleeing from police the previous night, and rummaging through the victim's backpack, where he claimed to have found marijuana. He identified the passenger as the shooter. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Fletcher with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery, resisting arrest, and two counts of armed criminal action. He was held on a $250,000 cash-only bond.
