On the afternoon of November 21, 2018, police officers in Saint Louis, Missouri, were dispatched to the downtown area following reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the 1500 block of Locust Street in the Downtown West neighborhood around 3:25 p.m., first responders discovered a 27-year-old male, Brandon Knighten, unconscious and not breathing inside a vehicle.
Emergency medical personnel rushed Knighten to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
Despite their efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the medical facility. The incident occurred in broad daylight, and investigators later marked evidence scattered across the street at the scene.
According to reports released by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, Knighten was not alone in the vehicle when the violence occurred. Four other individuals were present, including a 37-year-old man and three young children—a 4-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy, and a 7-year-old boy. Authorities confirmed that none of the passengers, including the children, sustained any injuries during the shooting.
The Homicide Division took over the investigation immediately following the event.
