In the Walnut Park West neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, a violent incident unfolded on the night of November 13, 2020, claiming the life of a local resident. Darryl Dodson, a 59-year-old Black male, was traveling in a vehicle with two younger acquaintances around 10:10 p.m. near the 5000 block of Goodfellow Boulevard. While the group was in transit, unknown assailants opened fire on their car, striking the vehicle multiple times in a sudden barrage of gunfire.
Following the attack,
the vehicle continued moving for several blocks before coming to a stop in the 5500 block of Hamilton Avenue. Police officers responding to the scene discovered Dodson inside the car, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the arrival of emergency responders, he had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two occupants of the vehicle, identified as a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, managed to escape the barrage of bullets without physical injury.
Homicide detectives from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting, canvassing the area for evidence and potential witnesses. Authorities urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying those responsible. Despite these efforts, no suspects were publicly identified in the immediate aftermath, and no arrests have been reported in connection with the case. The investigation remained active as detectives sought to determine the motive behind the fatal ambush.
