In Vinita Park, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis, an argument between two acquaintances inside a home on the 8300 block of Midland escalated to a fatal conclusion on the evening of Monday, March 2, 2020. Alonzo T. Rodgers Jr., a 31-year-old male, was shot and killed during the dispute.
The man identified as the shooter was Tommy Shepard, 29, of Vinita Park. Following the shooting, Shepard fled the scene in a vehicle.
He was later spotted by police, and a chase ensued when he refused to stop. The pursuit ended when Shepard abandoned his car and attempted to escape on foot into a wooded area. Officers were able to apprehend him and recovered a gun nearby that is believed to be the weapon used in the shooting.
Following the investigation by the North County Police Cooperative, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Shepard. He is facing charges of first-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest. Shepard was taken into custody and is being held at the St. Louis County Justice Center without bond.
