On June 25, 2023, a violent shooting erupted during an after-hours gathering in Kansas City, Missouri, claiming the lives of three individuals. Among the victims was 29-year-old Camden M. Brown, a male resident of the area. The incident occurred early that Sunday morning, around 4:30 a.m., in the parking lot of Perfect Touch Auto Detail near 57th Street and Prospect Avenue, a location known to locals for hosting informal social events late at night.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, comparing the sound of the gunfire to a war zone as dozens of shots rang out, prompting attendees to flee for their lives.
Camden Brown had been at the gathering with his girlfriend when the violence began. According to accounts provided by his father, Andy Brown, the couple was attempting to run to safety when Camden was struck by gunfire. He was reportedly shot in the back as he fled, becoming one of three fatalities that morning. The other victims were identified as 22-year-old Nikko Manning and 28-year-old Jasity Strong, a mother of two who had been celebrating her birthday. Five additional people were injured in the melee but survived their wounds.
Investigators quickly turned their attention to identifying the individuals responsible for the bloodshed. Prosecutors charged 26-year-old Keivon M. Greene with three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of armed criminal action in connection with the deaths. Greene, who had been released from the Jackson County Detention Center on bond for separate drug and resistance charges just two days prior to the shooting, was also treated for a gunshot wound to his hand. Authorities indicated that Greene was one of at least two suspects believed to have fired weapons during the altercation, noting that a dispute at the gathering likely precipitated the deadly chain of events.
