On Sunday, August 6, 2023, the life of 22-year-old Robert Green came to a violent end in the Kingsway West neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. Shortly before 2:00 p.m. that afternoon, officers from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a call in the 5100 block of Greer Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Green suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was unresponsive and not breathing at the scene.
Emergency personnel transported him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation revealed that the fatal encounter stemmed from a dispute over the sale of a firearm. Authorities determined that Green had been chased out of a gangway by a suspect who opened fire, striking him several times. According to prosecutors, after Green collapsed in the street, the shooter approached him and fired twice into his head before stealing the victim's gun. The entire sequence of events was captured on surveillance video, which later played a crucial role in the legal proceedings.
Police identified the suspect as Robert Walker Jr., who was 16 years old at the time of the shooting but was subsequently certified to stand trial as an adult. Walker was taken into custody and faced serious charges related to the homicide. The teen's actions were described by the Circuit Attorney’s Office as an escalation from a dispute into a pursuit and execution-style killing.
In October 2024, Robert Walker Jr., then 17, pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action. Following his plea, a judge sentenced him to a total of 22 years in prison—19 years for the murder charge and three years for the armed criminal action charge. The case was prosecuted by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office, bringing a legal conclusion to the tragic events of that summer afternoon.
