In the late summer of 2023, a shooting in south Kansas City's Ruskin Heights neighborhood tragically cut short the life of 24-year-old Devin Sparkman. On the evening of Wednesday, September 6th, police were called to the 11300 block of Bristol Terrace, where they discovered Sparkman suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Devin Sparkman succumbed to his injuries two days later, on Friday, September 8, 2023.
Following the initial incident, responding officers were able to speak with both the suspected shooter and witnesses at the scene. The individual believed to be responsible for the shooting was taken into police custody without incident. The case was subsequently investigated as a homicide.
Born on November 3, 1998, in Kansas City, Kansas, Devin spent a large portion of his life in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a graduate of Ruskin High School's class of 2017. Known for his artistic talent, particularly his skill in drawing, he was also described as a prankster who loved to make people laugh. He was an avid sports fan, with a special affinity for the Kansas City Chiefs. Remembered as a protector of his family, he was cherished by his mother, brothers, nephews, and cousins.
