On a Saturday afternoon in September, 31-year-old Reginald Brandy was driving in Jennings, Missouri, with Denetrice Jackson when their vehicle was suddenly riddled with gunfire. The attack occurred around 12:45 p.m. near the intersection of West Florissant Avenue and Buzz Westfall Drive. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered both Brandy and Jackson inside the car, which had come to a stop in the eastbound lanes.
Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the double homicide led detectives to a dark SUV that was seen on surveillance cameras in the area before and after the shooting. Police were able to identify the vehicle's license plate, which led them to its owner, a former girlfriend of Reginald Brandy. She informed the authorities that a man named Davon Anthony Reid had been in possession of her vehicle at the time of the killings. A search of the SUV uncovered a shell casing that matched those found at the crime scene. Further investigation of a residence connected to the vehicle revealed a 9mm magazine and documents belonging to Reid in his bedside table. Cell phone records also placed Reid in the vicinity of the shooting at the time it occurred. Davon Anthony Reid, 33, was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action. He is being held on a $1 million cash-only bond.
In a separate and unrelated incident, 52-year-old Reginald Brandy was at his job at the Dobbs Tire and Auto Center on Dorsett Road in Maryland Heights on a Wednesday morning in January. Shortly before 11 a.m., a verbal dispute broke out between Brandy and one of his co-workers, 23-year-old De Shawn L. Johnson. The argument escalated tragically when Johnson pulled out a gun and fired several shots at Brandy.
Officers were dispatched to the auto shop after receiving reports of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they found Reginald Brandy deceased inside the establishment. Johnson was arrested at the scene. During questioning, he admitted to police that he and Brandy had been in a dispute, claiming that Brandy had struck him multiple times before he opened fire. He also mentioned that the two had a history of arguments. De Shawn L. Johnson was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action and was held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $1 million cash bail.
