In the winter of 2015, a young man’s life was tragically cut short on a street in Jennings, Missouri. Kjuan Smith, a 23-year-old male, was shot and killed on January 16, 2015. The incident was marked by a chilling display of violence, with authorities later discovering 25 shell casings at the scene of the crime. The investigation into the shooting revealed that Smith had been shot five times.
The man responsible for his death was identified as 25-year-old Steven Crossland.
In the course of the investigation, it was also alleged that Crossland had fired at two other men who were with Smith and fled the scene. Initially, Crossland faced a charge of second-degree murder, along with two counts of first-degree assault and three counts of armed criminal action.
However, the legal proceedings took a different turn. In July 2017, just as his trial was about to begin, Steven Crossland entered into a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of voluntary manslaughter and one count of armed criminal action. He was subsequently sentenced for his role in the death of Kjuan Smith.
