In the late summer of 2023, a tragedy befell a Hispanic man in Independence, Missouri, leaving a community searching for answers. On Saturday, September 23, 2023, 34-year-old Manuel Barrera was found deceased in a residence, his life cut short by gun violence. The Independence Police Department responded to the scene and immediately launched a homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the male victim.
