On March 24, 2019, police in Independence, Missouri, launched a homicide investigation following a late-night shooting at a residence in the 2900 block of South Forest Avenue. Officers were dispatched to the home shortly after midnight after a witness called 911 to report that a man had been shot inside the house. upon arrival, first responders discovered the victim, 38-year-old Donald Lee McIntosh Jr., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the master bedroom of the residence.
Emergency medical personnel transported McIntosh to Centerpoint Medical Center for urgent treatment, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Detectives quickly began interviewing witnesses at the scene to piece together the events leading up to the violence. According to court records, these witness statements pointed to a specific individual who had been present at the home. Police identified 18-year-old Ingenue K. Persinger as the primary suspect in the shooting. Following the identification, the Independence Police Department issued a public alert seeking her whereabouts in connection with the homicide.
The investigation progressed rapidly, and detectives located and interviewed Persinger the following day. During questioning, she allegedly provided a confession to authorities, admitting that she had shot McIntosh multiple times while they were inside the home. Consequently, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office charged Persinger with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. She was held on a bond set at $200,000 as the legal proceedings commenced.
