On February 29, 2024, in Independence, Missouri, 41-year-old Jackson County civil process server, Drexel Mack, was fatally shot while serving an eviction notice. Mack, who had been with the Jackson County court for over 12 years, arrived at the residence on North Elsea Smith Road accompanied by two colleagues. After receiving no response upon knocking and announcing their presence, they proceeded to drill out the lock to gain entry.
