In Independence, Missouri, a dispute over a $300 drug debt led to the tragic death of 30-year-old Charles J. Dunnington, a man known to his loved ones as 'Chuck'. The events unfolded at a residence located in the 11300 block of East 11th Street, where Dunnington was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be insurmountable, and he died on May 13, 2013.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a
suspect. Jackson County authorities brought charges against 35-year-old Finesse I. O'Banion of Independence. He was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with Dunnington's death. According to court records, a witness who resided with Dunnington told investigators that O'Banion had made several phone calls to her prior to the shooting.
During these calls, O'Banion allegedly stated that he and another man were coming to the residence to confront Dunnington. O'Banion claimed that Dunnington owed him $300. In addition to the alleged debt, O'Banion expressed that he was upset over hearing that Dunnington and another individual were purportedly planning to rob him. This volatile combination of accusations and anger culminated in the violent encounter that ended Charles Dunnington's life.
