Trevion Laurenz Stewart was a 13-year-old boy with a passion for football and music. A student at Bingham Middle School in Kansas City, Missouri, the young Black male was the beloved child of Trevontae Stewart and Akia Hawkins and left behind what his family called a legacy of love and laughter.
On the afternoon of Monday, April 22, 2024, Trevion’s life was cut short.
Just after 4 p.m., officers with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 2700 block of Quincy Avenue, in an area just west of Blue Valley Park. They arrived to find Trevion in the street, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to an area hospital, but he died from his injuries a short time later. His death was recorded as the city’s 43rd homicide of the year.
When police first arrived at the scene, they believed the victim was in his late teens or early twenties. It was not until two days later, on Wednesday, April 24, that authorities formally identified him as 13-year-old Trevion Stewart. Homicide detectives immediately began working to find anyone who may have witnessed the shooting.
The investigation into Trevion’s murder is ongoing. As of a police update in May 2024, detectives were still investigating the case but had not made any arrests in the homicide, and no suspect information had been released to the public.
The case remains unsolved. Authorities have asked anyone with details about the shooting to contact police at 816-234-5043 or the anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information that leads to an arrest.
