Dan Eugene Pruitt, Jr. was a 54-year-old Black male and a resident of Florissant, Missouri, known to his loved ones for his vibrant personality and infectious laugh. Born in Brooksville, Mississippi, he moved to St. Louis where he attended Sumner High School, graduating in 1988. He built a career as an over-the-road truck driver, a profession that allowed him to indulge his passion for travel and meeting new people.
Outside of work, he was a devoted family man who cherished gatherings and was particularly enthusiastic about sports, often found spiritedly cheering for basketball games. He was survived by his children, fiancé, and extended family who remembered him as the life of the party.
The events leading to his untimely death unfolded on the night of April 24, 2024. At approximately 10:00 p.m., police officers responded to a call in the Greater Ville neighborhood of St. Louis. Upon arriving at the 3200 block of North Taylor Avenue, they discovered Pruitt behind a building, suffering from a critical gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Following the shooting, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Division launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities canvassed the area and sought information from the public regarding the circumstances of the violence. Despite their efforts, initial reports indicated that no suspects had been identified, and no arrests had been made in connection with the case. Law enforcement continued to urge anyone with knowledge of the shooting to come forward as the search for those responsible remained active.
