On the afternoon of Sunday, October 28, 2018, violence erupted in a residential neighborhood of St. Louis County, claiming the life of a young man. Eighteen-year-old Kamal Jackson Jr. was walking along the 10300 block of Lilac Avenue, located near the Riverview Gardens Senior High School in north St. Louis County. At approximately 4:50 p.m., the quiet of the day was shattered when an unknown vehicle drove down the street toward him.
As the vehicle approached the teenager, an occupant
inside opened fire, striking Jackson in a sudden drive-by attack. The car immediately sped away from the scene, leaving the victim critically injured on the roadway. Emergency responders and officers from the St. Louis County Police Department rushed to the location after receiving reports of the shooting, but despite their arrival, Jackson was found to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead, marking another tragic loss for the community.
