In the early hours of a January morning, the city of Newark was rattled by a burst of violence that claimed the life of 38-year-old Omar Rivera. On January 16, 2023, police responded to a report of a shooting on the 300 block of North 7th Street. Arriving at the scene around 12:30 a.m., officers discovered Rivera, a resident of nearby Belleville, suffering from gunshot wounds.
