On January 16, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., police responded to reports of a potential homicide on the 300 block of North 7th Street in Newark, New Jersey. Upon arrival, they discovered 38-year-old Omar Rivera, a resident of Belleville, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Rivera was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 4:00 a.m.
