In the quiet community of Succasunna, New Jersey, a heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded, leaving a family shattered and a neighborhood in mourning. Anthony Thomas Ventricelli, a 15-year-old male, lost his life on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, in a devastating act of violence that also claimed the life of his mother. Remembered as an incredibly loving, kind, and thoughtful young man, Anthony had made a significant impact on his family, friends, and classmates in his short time.

The grim discovery was made after a friend of the family requested a welfare check, concerned after being unable to reach them. Upon entering the family's home on Justine Place, Roxbury Police found a horrific scene. Anthony, along with his mother, Kellie Ventricelli, 58, and his father, Peter Ventricelli, 57, were all found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The subsequent investigation by the Morris County Prosecutor's Office determined that the deaths occurred in the early morning hours.

Investigators concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. The evidence indicated that Peter Ventricelli, a private contractor, shot and killed his wife, Kellie, and their teenage son, Anthony. Following these tragic acts, Peter then took his own life. The motive behind this terrible event remains under investigation, and authorities have stated there were no prior domestic violence calls to the residence.

The community was left to grapple with the shocking and senseless loss of life. Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll described the event as a 'tragic murder suicide brought on by domestic violence' and expressed heartbreak for the Ventricelli family. In the wake of the tragedy, support and resources were made available to students and staff at Roxbury High School, where Anthony was a student, as they mourned the loss of a young life cut tragically short.
