In the late afternoon of Sunday, March 26, 2023, the sound of gunfire pierced the air in Camden, New Jersey, leading to the untimely death of 21-year-old Daijohn Spaulding. A ShotSpotter activation drew Camden County Police Department officers to the 1400 block of Collings Road at approximately 2:40 p.m. Upon their arrival, the grim reality of the situation began to unfold as they discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Spaulding, was found on the 3100 block of Alabama Road. Officers quickly transported him to Cooper University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Spaulding was pronounced deceased at approximately 3:01 p.m.
The investigation into the fatal shooting moved swiftly, and within days, a suspect was identified. On Thursday, March 30, 2023, authorities charged 18-year-old Nykwan Taylor, a resident of Camden, in connection with Spaulding's death. The following day, on Friday, March 31, 2023, Taylor surrendered himself to law enforcement at the Camden County Police Department Police Administration Building.
Taylor was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. Following his surrender, he was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility. While an arrest has been made, authorities have stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
