On June 5, 2023, at approximately 4:20 a.m., Jersey City police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at 124 Wilkinson Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 15-year-old Tyshawn Smith with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was pronounced dead at approximately 4:55 a.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office later determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the abdomen and classified it as a homicide.
