On January 3, 2024, at approximately 9:57 p.m., 17-year-old Newark resident Quran McClean was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting on the 100 block of Ridgewood Avenue in Newark's South Ward. Witnesses reported that a vehicle drove by and unleashed a barrage of gunfire at a group of individuals gathered on the street. McClean attempted to flee into a nearby building after being struck but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
