In the warm spring of 2017, a Black/African American man named Jason Mandell Elliott, 38 years old, was living his life in Birmingham, Alabama. As the Memorial Day weekend began, a burst of violence cut his story short. On Friday, May 26, 2017, Elliott was shot. The wounds he sustained were multiple and grave, and despite any medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. His death was another instance of gun violence in the city.
