On June 25, 2024, at approximately 1:22 a.m., Irvington police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at a building in the 300 block of 21st Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 20-year-old Quashawn Moses from East Orange near the entrance of the building, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 2:59 a.m.
