In the late afternoon of a summer day in Albemarle County, Virginia, tragedy struck in a busy parking lot, forever altering the lives of two families. On July 21, 2023, Gerardo Antonio Chicas-Torres, a 22-year-old male, was fatally shot in a parking lot on the corner of Berkmar Drive and Seminole Trail. Another man, 27-year-old Carlos Atilio Portillo Requeno, was also killed in the incident.
The two men were not just friends; they were brothers-in-law, connected by family bonds that were irrevocably broken by the sudden violence of that day.
