On July 30, 2023, 24-year-old Mathew Cameron Carper of Radford, Virginia, was found with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle in the 7000 block of Overlook Lane in the Fairlawn area of Pulaski County. Deputies from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 1 a.m. Carper received immediate medical attention and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
