In the early morning hours of August 27, 2023, the life of 27-year-old Temetrius Trevonte 'Doodie' Coker was tragically cut short in Richmond, Virginia. Responding to a call of a person shot at approximately 4:57 a.m., Richmond Police officers arrived at the 200 block of West Baker Street in the vicinity of the Gilpin Court neighborhood to a grim scene. There in the roadway, they found Coker unresponsive, having sustained an apparent gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Born on February 27, 1996, Temetrius was a Richmond native who had attended local public schools, where he forged strong, lasting friendships. Known for his outgoing and humorous personality, he was a well-known figure in his community. He was a father to two daughters. He grew up in the Jackson Ward/Gilpin Court area, where he was a familiar and friendly face to many.
In the wake of the shooting, the Richmond Police Department's Major Crimes unit launched a homicide investigation. The Medical Examiner was tasked with officially determining the cause and manner of death. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might shed light on the circumstances leading to Coker's death. To date, no information regarding any potential suspects has been released to the public, and no arrests have been made in connection with the case. The investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to seek answers for a grieving family and community.
