On a Saturday afternoon in Dumfries, Virginia, a verbal dispute between two roommates tragically escalated, leaving one man dead. The incident, which occurred on September 2, 2023, claimed the life of 43-year-old Derrick Lanell Jordan. Jordan, a Black male, was shot multiple times by his roommate, Brandon Harry Edwards, who was 34 at the time.
The fatal encounter began inside a vehicle in the 17200 block of Richmond Highway. An argument between Jordan and Edwards intensified to the point where Edwards produced a firearm and shot Jordan, who was in the driver's seat. The violence did not end there; Edwards then exited the vehicle and continued to fire at Jordan.
Responding Prince William County Police officers arrived at the scene around 1:41 PM to find Jordan with life-threatening injuries. They administered first aid until he could be transported to a local hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his wounds. In the aftermath of the shooting, Edwards fled the area, making his way to Washington D.C. Later that day, he contacted the D.C. Metropolitan Police and surrendered without incident.
Brandon Harry Edwards, of Dumfries, was taken into custody and subsequently charged with murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was held in Washington D.C. following his arrest, awaiting extradition to Virginia to face the charges related to the death of his roommate.
