On November 28, 2023, at approximately 4:07 p.m., Petersburg police responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of Perry Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 29-year-old DeVaughn A. Lawrence deceased at the scene. The incident marked Petersburg's 22nd homicide of the year, equaling the city's previous record set in 2020.
