In the wooded area behind a business in Woodbridge, Virginia, the life of 51-year-old Patricia Kathleen Beglin came to a tragic end on the morning of December 28, 2023. Authorities responded to a call at approximately 7:56 a.m. and discovered Ms. Beglin on the ground, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to her upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into her death quickly pointed to an acquaintance, 37-year-old Karen Nicole Pollard. Detectives believe the two women were involved in an argument over fentanyl pills, which escalated to the fatal shooting. Warrants were issued for Pollard's arrest on charges of murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Initially, law enforcement was unable to locate Pollard and offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to her arrest.
Nearly a month after Patricia Beglin's death, authorities received information on Karen Pollard's whereabouts. She was located and taken into custody in the neighboring state of Maryland, in Prince George's County. Following her arrest, Pollard was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries she had sustained in a separate incident. She is awaiting extradition back to Virginia to face the charges related to the death of Patricia Beglin. Court records indicate that Pollard has a history of prior charges, including grand larceny and drug-related offenses.
