In the quiet evening of January 9, 2024, tragedy struck in Henrico County, just outside of Richmond, Virginia, forever altering the lives of two families. Spencer Sévon Alton James Bartee, a 29-year-old male, was caught in a burst of violence that left him fatally wounded. The incident, which unfolded on Engleside Drive, also claimed the life of 20-year-old Domonique Swan.
Henrico Police responded to a report of a shooting that resulted in a vehicle crash around 7:15 p.m..
Upon their arrival, they discovered both Spencer Bartee and Domonique Swan inside a vehicle, each suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. While Swan was pronounced deceased at the scene, Bartee was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later succumbed to his wounds.
Known as a 'Gentle Giant' with a heartwarming smile and infectious laughter, Spencer was a devoted father to his son. He had a passion for playing semi-pro football until injuries prevented him from continuing. At the time of his death, he was employed by the United States Postal Service and served as a mentor for the Boys to Men after-school program at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Richmond. His obituary paints a picture of a man deeply committed to his family and his faith.
In the wake of the double homicide, Henrico Police launched an investigation that led them to identify a suspect. Terrence Jarell Morton-Swan, an 18-year-old from Henrico, was named in connection with the case. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest on a charge of shooting into an occupied dwelling and appealed to the public for information regarding his whereabouts. He was described as a Black male with a slender build, brown eyes, and black hair in braids.
