In the early evening of June 12, 2024, officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Hampton Street following a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Wilson Negron Jr., a 46-year-old male from Henrico, on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Friends remembered Negron, a father of two adult children, as a person with a 'really good heart' who was known for helping others.
The investigation into the death of Wilson Negron Jr. led to the identification and arrest of two suspects. Lavena Brown, 51, of Chesterfield, was apprehended with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. The second suspect, 25-year-old Daquan Brunson of Richmond, was arrested in Yorktown by the National Park Police.
Both Brown and Brunson face a series of charges related to the incident. These charges include the murder of Wilson Negron Jr., conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, carjacking, and the use of a firearm in the commission of murder, robbery, and carjacking. In addition to these charges, Brunson is also accused of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
