In the early morning hours of a summer Saturday in Richmond, Virginia, tragedy struck in the Whitcomb Court neighborhood. On June 22, 2024, police were called to the 2300 block of Bethel Street around 3:44 a.m. following a report of a shooting. There, on the porch of a home, they discovered 46-year-old Eric Jackson, a Black male, unresponsive. He had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Richmond Police Department launched a homicide investigation
into the death of the Richmond resident. As of late 2024, no arrests had been announced, and authorities had not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting. Investigators have urged anyone with information to come forward and contact Major Crimes Detective A. Darnell or to anonymously report tips through Crime Stoppers.
Eric Jackson, born on September 22, 1977, was a father to six children: Nasia Crawford, Zahnasia Cooper, Eric Jackson Jr., Shyna Cooper, Alisa Crawford, and Jayden Archie. He was also a grandfather to one. He is survived by his mother, Lindell Jackson, and several siblings. A funeral service was held for him on July 6, 2024, at the Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, followed by his burial at Oakwood Cemetery.
