On a Valentine's Day afternoon in Irmo, South Carolina, a verbal dispute in a grocery store parking lot escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 26-year-old Alexandria Cress Borys. The young mother was shot and killed around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of a Kroger. Borys, a nursing student and cosmetologist, was with her two-year-old and infant in her car at the time of the incident.
The tragic events unfolded after Borys and another woman, later identified as 23-year-old
Christina Harrison, had an argument. Witnesses reported that the two women, who did not know each other, exchanged words before the shooting. The disagreement was reportedly over the right-of-way in the parking lot. According to the Irmo police chief, witnesses stated that Borys spat at Harrison during the altercation. As Borys turned to walk away, Harrison allegedly shot her in the back of the head. Borys was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the shooting, Christina Harrison fled the scene in a white Ford. However, about an hour and a half later, she turned herself in to the Irmo Police Department. Harrison was arrested and charged with murder, unlawfully carrying a pistol, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. The Irmo Police Chief described the incident as a 'senseless' tragedy where 'tempers flared, and someone let anger get the best of them.'
The community was left in shock by the sudden and violent death of the young mother. Her husband, Tyler Borys, rushed to the scene after receiving a frantic call from his wife's sister-in-law. He later set up a GoFundMe page to create a memorial in his wife's honor. The incident gained national attention, highlighting the devastating consequences of a brief and heated argument.
