In the early hours of February 23, 2023, 14-year-old Elijah Delbert Allen Sergent was fatally shot while inside his home on Willingham Road in Belton, South Carolina. At approximately 2:30 a.m., a bullet fired from outside the residence struck Sergent, who was in the kitchen at the time. The incident was determined to be a drive-by shooting, and Sergent's death was ruled a homicide.
