In the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 1, 2023, the life of Myra Littlejohn Davidson, a 47-year-old Black female from Gaffney, South Carolina, was tragically cut short in an act of violence that stunned the community. The incident unfolded in the parking lot of the Timken Co. plant, where Davidson was a long-time employee. As she arrived for her shift at approximately 7 a.m., she was confronted by her ex-boyfriend, 55-year-old Dock Theodore Hopper, who also worked at the facility.
Witnesses reported that after a brief interaction, Hopper fatally shot Davidson multiple times before taking his own life. The Cherokee County Coroner's Office later confirmed the event was a murder-suicide. Friends and family recalled that Davidson and Hopper had been in a relationship that had ended prior to the fatal encounter.
In the wake of the tragedy, Myra Davidson was remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, and a dedicated member of the Green Bethel Baptist Church, where she served in numerous capacities. Her death prompted her estate to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the Timken Company. The lawsuit alleges that the company was aware of threats Hopper had made against Davidson but failed to take adequate measures to ensure her safety at their workplace.
