On the evening of January 4, 2023, in Gaffney, South Carolina, 18-year-old Alexis Shaynne Griffin was fatally shot while she was a passenger in an SUV. The vehicle was being driven by her boyfriend at the time of the incident. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Overbrook Drive and West Buford Street around 11 p.m. Following the shooting, her boyfriend immediately drove her to Cherokee Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 11:20 p.m.

The suspect allegedly opened fire on the vehicle, which resulted in the single, fatal shot that struck Griffin.
Born on April 21, 2004, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Alexis was known for her love of family, friends, and cheerleading. She had aspirations of becoming a beautician, following in the footsteps of her great-grandmother. A memorial service was held for her on January 10, 2023, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Spartanburg. The juvenile suspect was transported to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia following his arrest.
